Artist, Author, Illustrator, and Designer Very few people are fortunate enough to spend everyday of their life surrounded by that which they love. Michal Sparks is one of those people. She began expressing herself through her art at the young age of four with her first set of oil paints. Working beside her mother, a portrait artist, her life's career began to unfold. Growing up surrounded by canvases, paints, and other artists, her life, enveloped by the art world, would naturally lead her to become a fine art painter herself. After scholarships and many awards, Sparks entered the prestigious Kansas City Art Institute. At the deciding moment, looking for adventure into the unknown, Sparks changed her major from painting to surface design, still a form of fine art with an emphasis on fabric, but completely different that anything she knew. Moving to New York City the day after graduation, Sparks leapt into the fashion industry. She worked as a fashion designer, a textile artist/designer for a studio then finally an art director for a major New York textile studio. Only four short years after arriving in New York City Sparks left the apparel industry to form her own company, Indigo Gate, Inc. a studio which would only focus on home textiles and home related gifts and products. Incorporating her knowledge of the industry with her extensive artistic background proved to be a very successful combination. Sparks stepped into the forefront in 1996 to begin licensing under her own name. For eight years Michal Sparks has been licensing throughout the industries of home, gifts and publishing.
